James L Tucker’s work reflects his upbringing amongst the creeks and woods of his grandparents Christmas tree farm in rural New Jersey. Surrounded by a close knit family whose stories of past friends` and adventures evolved in his young imagination became a personal folklore. A mythos that has played it’s way into his current life, where factual stories and stretched truths became memories.

Over the years the woods and creeks that were his sanctuary have become million dollar homes, the once close knit family drifts away, and truth is shed on stories that were constructed. James’ work embraces the fable that he once believed but it also delves in the destruction of the old ways.
James repurposes images simple objects of his past to create a narrative. All together they represent the story of the construction and destruction of his childhood and individually the pieces become a totems of his past.
